The day is Saturday May 8th and the sound is bass, lots of bass. As I and fellow observer Jason Young walk into the event it becomes clear we will be seeing some of finest car audio competitors from this area. Every make and model of car, truck or van seemed to be on hand, all with custom stereo systems. In fact, there was even a late model Mercedes Benz equipped with a Rockford Fosgate audio system. The event was sponsored by Audio Visionz and held on location of their store at 1419 S. 10th St. Mt Vernon, IL.

Before the competition actually began I walked inside the store to say hi to owner Kevin Green. Kevin smiled and said hello while handing me a free Rockford Fosgate key chain. I could tell Kevin was ready for the event to get underway.

Jason and I began taking photos of the many vehicles parked on display outside the store when we noticed the Audio Visionz van gathering a crowd. The van was in the middle of a complete stereo rebuild and the staff had just finished wiring in the amps for a day of competition. By the time I had worked through the crowd to see an up close look at the van, the SPL meter was at 147. Trust me, if you have never saw a vehicle hit a high SPL of at least 140 dB there aren’t many ways to describe it. Later that day I heard the van had reached 151 dB.
