McLeansboro Man Accused Of Shooting Estranged Wife's Boyfriend|
McLEANSBORO -- A Hamilton County man is in jail after a shooting in McLeansboro. 59-year-old Randall McMahon turned himself into Jefferson County authorities just before 3:00 PM Friday. He's accused of shooting and killing another man.
Witnesses tell News 3 the victim, Adam Ritchey, was dating McMahon's estranged wife. A neighbor says Ritchey and the woman were dropping off groceries at his mother's house when McMahon confronted the two and ultimately shot Ritchey in the head. The victim was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He later died as a result of his injuries.
Police barricaded several blocks in McLeansboro as they were searching for McMahon.
Hamilton County State's Attorney Justin Hood says this kind of brutal violence is unexpected in the rural county.
"The last murder we had in Hamilton county was in 2002, the last murder here in McLeansboro was in the 90's," said Hood, "it kind of shocks our conscience."
McMahon is well known in the community, he owns a car garage in McLeansboro. Hood says the suspect does not have a violent past.
Charges will likely be followed during the weekend. He's expected to make a first court appearance next week.
During the manhunt, Hamilton County schools were on lock down. The superintendent says that is standard procedure in this kind of situation. But says kids were never in danger.
