Edith M. Brooks, 93, of McLeansboro, died at 1:18 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 1996, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was a housewife.
Mrs. Brooks was born on March 15, 1903, in Mt. Vernon, a daughter of William and Sarah (Gibbs) Spicer. She was married twice, to Jess Abrams and Rev. Jess Brooks, both whom are deceased. She taught Sunday School at Nason Baptist Church for several years. Mrs. Brooks had made her home with her daughter Leona and granddaughter April Lynn Bay for the last 10 years.
Graveside services were at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 1996, at IOOF Cemetery. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro was in charge of the service.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by one daughter, Leona Bay of McLeansboro; one sister, Mabel Brimm of Anna; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, son Melvin Lee Abrams, and several brothers and sisters.
