Eugene H. Wheeler of McLeansboro, died at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 1996, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was a retired water and electrical plant operator for the city of McLeansboro.
Mr. Wheeler was born on September 21, 1910 in Evansville, Indiana, a son of Douglas and Minne (Farris) Wheeler. He married Violet Russell, who preceded him in death. He attended Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 1996, at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro. Graveside burial rites were by American Legion Post #106.
Mr. Wheeler is survived by one son, John Wheeler and wife Carol of Dow, Illinois; one daughter, Linda Dale and Husband Bruce of McLeansboro; four grandchildren, Tammy Sims, Dawn Wheeler, Clint Mosby, and Lukas Dale; and one great-grandchild, Devin Wheeler.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
