Harriet Barkley Barnard

Harriett Barkley Barnard, 74, of Wayne City, died at 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 1996, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Her health had been declining for several years due to liver and heart complications.

Mrs. Barnard was born on May 22, 1922, in Carbondale, a daughter of Harry J. and Gertrude (Brennen) Barkley. She married Art Barnard on October 16, 1949. Mrs. Barnard was a social worker for the Illinois Department of Child Welfare before marriage, then became active in her husband's Livestock Marketing Business in Wayne City. She was a member of the Monday Evening Womans Club, the Illinois Federation of Womans Clubs and the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was also actively involved in organizating support for Wayne City's first kindergarden. She was a member of Wayne City Baptist Church.

The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 1996, at Wayne City Baptist Church. Rev. Russ Johnson and Rev. Everett Lemay officiated. Burial was in Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. York Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barnard is survived by her husband, Art Barndard of Wayne City; two sons; Barkley Barnard and wife Denise of Fairfield and Mark Barnard of Wayne City; three granddaughters; Kassie, Jessica and Marlissa, all of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother John.

Memorials may be made to the Wayne City Baptist Church and will be accepted at York Funeral Home.
