John L. "Briss" Bowers, 75 of McLeansboro, died at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 1997. He was a retired oil field pulling unit equipment operator.
He was born on September 17, 1921, in Hamilton County, a son of William and Minnie (Holland) Bowers. He married Claudia B. Bridwell on May 13, 1944, and she survives. He was a member of Smith Church near Dale.
The funeral was at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Rev. Gerald "Andy" May officiated. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mr. Bowers is also survived by three sons, John R. Bowers and wife Phyllis Sue of McLeansboro, Larry Joe Bowers and wife Judy of Broughton; one daughter, Andrea Rubenacker and fiancee Melvin Tennyson of McLeansboro; three brothers, James Bowers of Evansville, Indiana, Charles "Chick" Bowers of McLeansboro, Joe Franklin Bowers of Macedonia; three sisters, Fay Hook of Halstead, Kansas, Fern Fulks of Turon, Kansas, Anna Cheshier o
