John Metcalf, 79, of McLeansboro, died at 2:55 a.m. on Sunday, November 9, 1997, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital of McLeansboro.

He was born on May 20, 1918, in Hamilton County, a son of Troy and Laurel M. (Phipps) Metcalf. he was a member of the First General Baptist Church of McLeansboro.

The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 1997. The Rev. Ken Cook officiated. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.

Mr. Metcalf is survived by one sister, Doris Beard and husband Robert of McLeansboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Memorials may be made to the First General Baptist Church or to Trade Industries.
