John Thomas Gholson

John Thomas Gholson, 71, of Carbondale, Illinois, died at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 1997, at his home. He was retired from the Southern Illinois University School of Agriculture, where he managed the poultry center and feed mill.

He was born on January 3, 1926, in Broughton, a son of John Randal and Georgia Ann (Pearce) Gholson. He married Mary Louise Waugh, who died on January 10, 1989. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Belle Rive and an Army veteran of World War II.

The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 1997, at Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale. Burial was in Murdale Garden of Memories in Murphysboro.

He is survived by two daughters, Karla Blair and husband Michael of Makanda and Nancy Skouby and husband Don of Desoto; one son, Michael Gholson and wife Terry of Carbondale; five grandchildren, Brian and Megal Skouby and Kimberly, Jennifer and Steven Blair; four sisters, Sylvia Drosdahl of Las Vegas, Nevada, Elsie Auxier and Annette Webb, both of McLeansboro, and Elizabeth Neal of Marion; four brothers, Joe Gholson of DeSoto, Charles Gholson of Louisville, Kentucky, Jim Gholson of Carmi and Jerry Gholson of Evansville, Indiana; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Gholson of Clinton.

Besides his wife, Mr. Gholson was preceded in by his parents and one brother.
