Louis James "Jim" Herzing, 71, of Dahlgren, died on Saturday, July 5, 1997 at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon. He was a radio technician for the Illinois State Police.
He was born on November 25, 1925, a son of Louis Jacob and Clara (Rubenacker) Herzing. On July 24, 1948, he married Jean Dickerson, who survives. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He attended D'Vrye University.
The funeral was at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 1997, at St. John's Catholic Church in Dahlgren. Father Alan Ruppert officiated. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery. Altar servers were provided by the Knights of Columbus. Newell Funeral Home of Mt. Vernon was in charge of the arrangements.
Besides his wife, Mr. Herzing is survived by two sons, James Herzing and wife Nancy of Mt. Vernon and Bob Herzing and wife Louis of Scheller; four daughters, Cathy Williams and husband Alan of Waltonville, Susan Allen and husband Steve of Houston, Texas, Stephanie Fitzjerrells of Mt. Vernon and Janet Estes and husband Alan of Mt. Vernon; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Floyd Herzing of Mt. Vernon, Dick Herzing of Mt. Vernon and Bill Herzing of Dahlgren; three sisters, Betty Tanner of Hurst, Texas, Clara Lou Mitchell of McLeansboro and Mary Winemiller of Dahlgren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
