Lewis "Shorty" Jones, 89, of McLeansboro died at 12:48 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 1997, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was a retired welder and mechanic.
He was born on August 5, 1908 in Peoria, son of Lewis and Mary (Bearl) Jones. On December 24, 1946, in Morganfield, Kentucky, he married Virginia A. Hall, who survives.
The funeral was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 26, 1908, at Gholson Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Besides his wife, Mr. Jones is survived by two sons, Wayne Jones and wife Mary of Rock Falls, Illinois, and Charles Jones and wife Chris of Dixon, Illinois; a daughter, Nellie Caldwell of Old Shawneetown; two sisters, Irene Lane of Peoria and Mary Foster of Chillicothe; nine grandchildren; and nine great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, four brothers and three sisters.
