Mildred (Hall) Dowd, 97, of Anderson, Indiana, and formerly of McLeansboro, died at Saturday evening, Aug. 30, 1997, at Westminster Village in Anderson. She and her husband operated the Shop Nook in McLeansboro, and she was retired history teacher at McLeansboro.
She was born on February 21, 1900, in McLeansboro. She was married to John M. Dowd, who died on August 27, 1991. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, a graduate of Stephens College and Indiana University, a charter member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and P.E.O.
Visitation was on Thursday, September 4, 1997, until service time. The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Father Arnold Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in the Oddfellows Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mrs. Dowd is survived by one nephew, Wendell K. Hall and wife Eran of Anderson, Indiana; two great-nephews, William W. Hall of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Michael K. Hall of Sonoma, California; one great-niece, Eran Hall McCarty of Indianapolis, Indiana; and six great-great-nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dr. Ralph S. Hall.
