Sarah Allen, 80, of Green Valley, Arizona, formerly of McLeansboro, died on Tuesday, August 19, 1997, at Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto, California. She was a housewife and bank teller at Crocker National Bank in Palo Alto.

She was born on May 27, 1917, a daughter of Ezekiel Alfonso and Sara Leona (Madrigal) Gomar. On June 3, 1939, she married Layman Daily Allen, who died on May 5, 1997. She was a member of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley, a member of the Mothers Singers Club in San Bruno, California, the Junior League in Palo Alto and was a former Girl Scout Leader. She was an avid artist, having shown her work in South America.

The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 1997, at the Union Baptist Church near McLeansboro. The Rev. Lester Dean officiated. Burial was in Union Cemetery. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her mother, Sara Gomar of Huntington Beach, California; one son, Darryl Allen and wife Stephanie of San Jose, California; one daughter, Marlene Watkins and husband Earl of Newark, California; two brothers, Henry Gomar of Fresno, California, and Alfonso Gomar of Redwood City, California; two sisters, Carmen Oliphant of Buena Park, California, and Esther Boulton of Modesto, California; and four grandchildren.
