Alva D. Clark, 88, of McLeansboro and formerly of Chester, Illinois, died at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 1998, at McLeansboro HealthCare Center. He was a retired guard with the Illinois Department of Corrections at Chester.
He was born on May 7, 1910, in Hamilton County, a son of John Oliver and Oshie (Nierstheimer) Clark. On, Feb. 11, 1939, in St. Louis, he married Tillie Casten, who died on Feb. 6, 1986. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, past commander and member of the Chester American Legion and VFW Post, the Chester Masonic Lodge and St. John's Lutheran Church.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 1998, at WelgePechacek Funeral Home in Chester. The Rev. Fred Campbell officiated. Interment was in the family mausoleum at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester. Military rites were performed by the Chester American Legion.
He is survived by a sister. Madge Guker of Clearwater, Florida, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
