Almon O. "Shorty" Brock
Born July 8, 1921 - Died August 1, 1998

Almon O. "Shorty" Brock, 77, of McLeansboro and formerly of Enfield, died at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 1998, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was a retired welder with Caterpillar Company in Decatur.

He was born on July 8, 1921, in Hayti, Missouri, a son of Albert and Ellen (New) Brock. He married Alice E. Hunter, who died on May 19, 1993. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion Post #106, McLeansboro Eagles Lodge and past member of the Elks and Moose lodges.

The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 1998, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Larry Woodrow officiated. Burial was in the Enfield City Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post #106.

Mrs. Brock is survived by three sons, Alex Brock and wife Jena of McLeansboro, Gary Johnston and wife Verna of Lincoln, Illinois; two daughters, Ruth Benbrook of McLeansboro and Veda Newman and husband Charlie of Lincoln; one sister, Alberta Allen of Stonington, Illinois; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, three brothers and one sister.
