Charles E. "G-Man" Dial
Born August 6, 1922 - Died August 24, 1998

Charles E. "G-Man" Dial, 76, of Mt. Vernon, and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 8:47 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 1998, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. He was a retired school educator and coach of major sports and also taught school science. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

He was born on August 6, 1922, in Hamilton County, a son of Thomas Jefferson and Ann Alice (Huffstutler) Dial. He married Geraldine Williams, who proceded him in death.

His funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 1998, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Braden Valley Cemetery near McLeansboro with graveside military rites by American Legion Post #106.

Mr. Dial is survived by two sons, Steven Douglas Dial and wife Mary of Grapevine, Texas, and David Dial and wife Karen of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; two daughters, Cynthia Elaine Dial of New York, New York and Carol Lynn McTearen and husband Mike of Littleton, Colorado; two brothers, Earl Dial of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and John Dial of Jersey City, New Jersey; one sister, Lora Lewis of McLeansboro; five grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James, George, and Woodrow; and one sister, Janet.
