Elwood Harris, 87, of McLeansboro, died at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 1998, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He worked at Cornbleet Dress Factory before the factory closed, at McLeansboro Townshop High School until retirement as a custodian, and then for many years at Peoples National Bank.
He was born on April 13, 1910, in McLeansboro, a son of William and Effie Elizabeth (Groves) Harris. On September 1, 1934, he married Geneva Dorothy Hale, who survives. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in McLeansboro and was also a memeber of Masonic Lodge #137 A.F. & A.M. of McLeansboro.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 1998, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Geneva Harris of McLeansboro; one daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" King of Sun City, Arizonia; one granddaughter, Lea Ann Cardana and husband Andy of Concorde, California; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Ann Cardana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Katherine Lewis and Lucille Harrison; and one infant sister.
