Freda Elizabeth English, 92, of McLeansboro, died at 3:30 p.m. on December 17, 1998, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She was a retired school teacher. She was a school teacher in Saline and Hamilton counties.
She was born on November 26, 1906, in Broughton a daughter of Wheeler and Roxie (Twigg) Irvin. On May 30, 1929, she married Thomas W. English in Metropolis, and he died on December 28, 1991. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of McLeansboro and of the Daughters of American Revolution.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 1998, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. John Denham officiated. Burial was in Hickory Hill Cemetery near Walpole.
Mrs. English is survived by three brothers, Max A. Irvin and wife Delores of Austin, Texas, Eugene W. Irvin and wife Kathlyn of Champaign, Joseph N. Irvin and wife Vera of McLeansboro; several nephews and nieces.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Aileen Kane, brother Claud Irvin and her parents.
