George W. Hayter
Born February 15, 1911 - Died July 2, 1998

George W. Hayter, 87, of McLeansboro, died at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon. He was a retired farmer and retired maintenance man at McLeansboro Post Office.

He was born on February 15, 1911, in McLeansboro, a son of Frank and Oda (Harris) Hayter. On September 19, 1942, in Paducah, Kentucky, he married Jessie (Barker) Hayter, who survives. He was a member of Blooming Grove Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post #106 in McLeansboro and VFW Post #3851 of Carmi.

The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 1998, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Bill Gholson officiated. Burial was in Douglass Cemetery near Broughton. Graveside military rites were performed by McLeansboro American Legion Post #106.

Mr. Hayter is survived by his wife, Jessie (Barker) Hayter of McLeansboro, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
