Henry Farris, 92, of Staunton, and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 10:22 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, at Heritage Nursing Home in Staunton. He was a retired farmer.
He was born on December 2, 1905, in Hamilton County, a son of Columbus C. and Eva Lena (Hunt) Farris. On January 1, 1926, in Carmi, he married Nellie Griffith, who died on March 2, 1997. He was a member of the McLeansboro Assembly of God church and attended the Assembly of God church in Hartford, Illinois, for several years.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 1998, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
He is survived by a son, Dwight Farris and wife Mary Ruth of Bunker Hill, Illinois; a daughter, Darlene Sewell and husband Cleo of Crystal City, Missouri; three brothers, Herschel Farris of DeKalb, Illinois, Emory Farris and Robery Farris, both of McLeansboro; three sisters, Ethel Hutsler of Caseyville, Illinois, Dorothy Roe of Clay City, Illinois, Betty Allen of Broughton; eight grand-children; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.
