Rev. John Kent Deen, 83, of McLeansboro, died at 10:50 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Marion Memorial Hospital in Marion. He was a Presbyterian minister for 59 years, was a rural mail carrier 35 years and was a substitute postmaster.
He was born on December 16, 1914, in Broughton, a son of William and Minnie (Towle) Deen. On October 4, 1933, in McLeansboro, he married Ruth Grace Williams, who survives. He was a member of North Central Presbyteria, Hebron Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the McLeansboro Ministerial Alliance and the Rotary Club.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 1998 at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Rev. Bill Reed officiated. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery near Walpole.
Resides his wife, Mr. Deen is survived by three sons, James Deen and wife Wanda of McLeansboro, Frank Deen and wife Donna of McLeansboro, Donald Ray Deen of Broughton; two daughters, Mary Evelyn Tice and husband Bill of Fairfield, California, Beverly Louise York and husband Dallas of Fairfield, Illinois; two brothers, Willie Deen of Eldorado, Hugh Deen and wife Alice of Broughton; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Howard Deen and Almon Deen.
Memorials may he made to the Hebron Cemetery Fund.
