Leo Johnson, 88, of Dale, died at 9:15 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 1998, at the Eldorado Care Center in Eldorado. He was a retired salesman for J. B. Beaird Company in Shreveport, La., working there for 40 years.
He was born on July 7, 1910, in Hamilton County, a son of Madison and Bertie (Hunt) Johnson. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church in McLeansboro, a member of the Masonic Polk Lodge #137 in McLeansboro, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Ainad Temple at East St. Louis.
The funeral was at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 1998, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Braden Valley Cemetery near McLeansboro.
Mr. Johnson is survived by two sons, Jack Johnson and wife Bonnie of McLeansboro, James Kerstein and wife Deloris of Marion; two daughters, Marsha Roberson and husband Everett Dean of Dale, Barbara Kerstein of Marion; one brother, Eugene Johnson and wife Vernice of McLeansboro; one sister, Marcella Walker and husband Floyd of Benton; four grandchildren, Kevin Johnson, Michelle Street, Chad Roberson and Jason Kerstein; and two great-grandchildren, Dakota Blake Street and Dillon Anthony Street.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jeanne (Utley) Johnson, his parents and one sister.
