MaryAnn B. Karcher

MaryAnn B. Karcher, 85, of Dahlgren, died at 2:48 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 1998, at Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was a homemaker and assisted her late husband in the Farm Operation.

She was born on March 11, 1913, in Dahlgren, a daughter of Xavier and Frances (Roesch) Kiefer. On November 23, 1938, she married Theodore "Ted" Karcher, who died in 1975. She was a member of St. Ann's Altar Society of Dahlgren and a member St. John's Catholic Church of Dahlgren. She also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.

The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 1998 at St. John's Catholic Church in Piopolis. The Rev. Joseph Lawler officiated. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Piopolis. Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Karcher is survived by two daughters, Darlene Shannon and husband Dan of Carbondale, Diane Barnes and husband Stan of Florence, South Carolina; three brothers, Leopold Kiefer of Dahlgren, Albert Kiefer of St. Louis, Missouri, and Henry P. Kiefer of Belle Rive; one sister, Olivia Karcher of Mt. Vernon.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
