Mabel E. Gholson, 86, of Galatia, died at 9:10 a.m. on August 26, 1998, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. Before her retirement she worked as a school teacher in Rantoul, Illinois. She also worked at other area schools.
She was born June 13, 1912, in Broughton, a daughter of J. E. and Otta (Douglas) Hargrave. She married B. R. Gholson, who died in 1978. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galatia.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 1998, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. The Rev. Lloyd Whittaker officiated. Burial was in Gholson Cemetery.
Mrs. Gholson is survived by two sons, Frank Gholson of Belton, Texas, and Jim Gholson of Fremont, California; one sister, Lucille Ward of Galatia; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
