Philip Fred Gholson
Born March 20, 1938 - Died July 6, 1998

Philip Fred Gholson, 60, of Owensboro, Kentucky, and formerly of Broughton, died at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 1998, in Evansville, Indiana. He was a graduate of the College of Education at Southem Illinois University at Carbondale, and taught elementary school in Broughton and Freeburg schools. He retired from Terminal Railroad Association in East St. Louis after 26 years.

He was born March 20, 1938, in Saline County, a son of Rex R. and Mary Ann (Turpin) Gholson Pennington. He was active in AA's, serving as a sponsor in Illinois and in Owensboro.

The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 1998 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Bob Dickerson officiated. Burial was in Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton.

Mr. Gholson is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Gholson Pennington of Eldorado; two brothers, Rev. William "Bill" Gholson and wife Pauline of Vienna, Illinois, Dr. Ronald E. Gholson of Charleston, Illinois; one sister, Phylis Ann Ego of Eldorado; one stepbrother, Mike Pennington and wife Debbie Pennington of Marion; seven nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Rex Gholson, stepfather James D. Pennington and one niece, Donna Kay Ego.
