Richard B. Johnston, 75, of McLeansboro, died at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. He was a retired maintenance mechanic having last worked at Inland Container in Fenton, Missouri.

He was born on July 15, 1922, in Levasy, Mo., a son of John Hines and Lena (Winters) Johnston. He attended the Assembly of God Church in McLeansboro and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 1998, at the Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill, Missouri. The Rev. Joe Prance officiated. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro was in charge of the local arrangements.

Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife Ruby (Barton) Johnston of McLeansboro; two sons, Richard Johnston Jr. and wife Christi of Dittmer, Missouri and Byron Keith Johnston and wife Linda of Cedar Hill, Missouri, eight daughters, Regina Prather and husband Larry of High Ridge, Missouri, Renee Nelson and husband Bill of Cedar Hill, Missouri, Linda Smith of Glasgow, Kentucky, Chyrle Reed and husband Ed of Troy, Missouri, Connie Bader and husband Rick of Arnold, Missouri, Tammy Voege and husband Jeff of Fenton, Missouri, Kathy Shelton and husband Tony of Montgomery City, Missouri, Lori Johnston of McLeansboro; two sisters, Estella Farley of Wood River, Illinois, Nellie Wilson of Waynesville, Missouri; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, one brother and two sisters.
