David W. Carlton
Born May 24, 1943 - Died October 23, 1999

David W. Carlton, 56, died Saturday, October 23, 1999, at St. Mary’s Health Care Services/Welborn Campus as the result of a stroke.

He was born May 24, 1943 in Evansville, Indiana to Dr. M. Wendell and Mary Ellen (Jones) Carlton.

On August 8, 1965, in Owensboro, Kentucky, he married the former Brenda Joyce Cox, who survives. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel.

He began his teaching and coaching career at Westmer High School in Joy, taught and coached at Orion High School, Mount Carmel High School and Allendale High School.

His coaching career included football, basketball, baseball, golf and track and he had been an athletic director.

He also officiated at basketball games and taught football officiating clinics.

He was a graduate of Murray State College and member of the Pershing Riles Drill Team.

He was a member of the Wabash Valley Football Officials Association and the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mount Carmel.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Brenda J.; two daughters, Dr. Cheryl L. Carlton of Goshen, Indiana, and Karyn M. Carlton of Chicago; a son, James D. of Harrisburg; his mother, Mary Ellen of McLeansboro; a sister, Gwendolyn E. of Peoria and a brother, Marvin J. of McLeansboro.

Services were at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at Short Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in McLeansboro.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. M. Wendell Carlton.
