Geraldine Cook, 77, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Dahlgren, died at 6:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon. She worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid at the Hamilton County office in clerical section for 35 years and retired December 1, 1977.
She was born on December 5, 1921, in West Frankfort, a daughter of Frank Louis and Eliza (Bond) Irvin. On July 21, 1947, she married William Burton Cook, who died in 1983. She was a member of the Dahlgren First Baptist Church and the Belle Rive Eastern Star.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m.; on Saturday March 13, 1999, at Dahlgren First Baptist Church. The Rev. John Asby and Rev. Joe Nogalski officiated. Burial was in Dahlgren IOOF Cemetery. Gholson Funeral Home of Dahlgren was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Cook is survived by two daughters, Diane Reed and husband Robert E. of Decatur and Linda Walker and husband Carrol of Benton; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Strate and husband Stuart and Justin Reed, all of Decatur, Chalon, Kristen, Lindsey and Wesley Walker, all of Benton.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, H. Don Irvin; and one sister, Imogene Bundy.
