Herbert Alvin Drew, 62, of Branson, Missouri, and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 1999, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was a retired supervisor for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, where he worked for 30 years, and was employed with Presley Entertainment in Branson.
He was born on April 15, 1937, in Norris City, a son of Enos Alvin and Mary Ellen (Carter) Drew. On November 22, 1958, he married Carolyn Ann Rich, who survives. He was a member of Skyline Southern Baptist Church in Branson, Masonic Lodge of East Peoria, Shrine Club and Kitchen Band. He has on display in Branson with “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” 25 bottled art pieces.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, 1999, at the Gholson Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry W. Craig officiated. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Besides his wife, Mr. Drew is survived by one son, Lowell D. “Butch” Drew of East Peoria; one daughter, Katherine Hagey and husband Sam of Wood Heights, Missouri; his second earthly parents, Dale and Morrissene Drew of McLeansboro; one brother, Herman E. Drew of Sydney, Australia; two sisters, Darlene Hoke of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Frelna Crawford of Glendale Heights, Illinois; five grandchildren, John Robert Hagey, Kevin Drew Hagey, Joshua Allen Drew, Shelby Leigh Drew and Connet Reese Drew; one great-grandchild, Tyler Drew Hagey; and a dear friend of family, Julie Chruickshank.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Renal Cell Kidney Oncology Research and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home in MeLeansboro.
