John Harley Allen, 78, of Eldorado and formerly of Broughton, died at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 1999, at City Care Center in Eldorado. He was a retired farmer.
He was born on April 24, 1921, in Hamilton County, a son of Amos and Gertrude (Gholson) Allen. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Gholson Funeral Home. The Rev. H. E. "Gene" Rister officiated. Burial was in Hickory Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post #106.
He is survived by two nephews, John Hayter of Taylorville, Illinois, Phillip Hayter of Selah, Washington; and two nieces, Phyllis Mayberry of Broughton, Joyce Gunter of Elkhart, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Pauline Hayter.
