Dr. James Hamilton Cross, 81, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, formerly of Springfield and a native of Dalhgren, died on Saturday, January 16, 1999, at LaGrange Community Hospital.
He was born on June 2, l917, in Pineridge, South Dakota, a son of Roland R. Cross Sr. and Isabel Hunter Cross. In 1936, he married Cleda Moore.
Dr. Cross was a graduate of Washington University Medical School in St. Louis and the University of Illinois School of Medicine in Chicago. He received training and had a surgical practice at Hines Veterans’ Hospital for several years. His private practice was in Chicago at the former Henrotin Hospital, where he later became medical director. He also practiced surgery at LaGrange Memorial hospital, where he also served as medical director.
In 1942, he joined the University of Illinois army medical unit, serving in World War II. He was a member of the Chicago Surgical Society, the American College of Surgeons, American Board of Surgery and the American Medical Association.
Private family services were held.
He is survived by his wife Cleda; two sons, Jeffery and John; two daughters, Betsy and Jane; nine grandchildren; and two brothers, Dr. Chauncy Cross, DDS, and Dr. Roland R. Cross Jr.
He was preceded in death by another brother, Gilbert Hall Cross.
