James Owen Carlisle, 63, of Macedonia, died at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 1999 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. He was a retired Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post #2671 in Benton, Benton Eagles and the Naval Fleet Reserves.
He was born on January 12, 1936 in Hamilton County, a son of Omer and Fay (Biggs) Carlisle.
His funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 1999, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton. The Revs. Charles Dunford and Glen Allen Smith officiated and burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Thompsonville with military graveside rites.
Mr. Carlisle is survived by his companion, Joan Stone of Macedonia; three sons, John Carlisle of Pensacola, Florida, Scott Carlisle of Hernando, Mississippi; Nick Carlisle of Memphis, Tennessee; five grandchildren, mother, Fay Carlisle of Thompsonville; one sister, Donna Penny of Kankakee; three brothers, Chuck Carlisle of Kankakee, Jack Carlisle of Alton and Vic Carlisle of Kankakee and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Betty Fuller.
