Mary Elizabeth Howell, 91, of McLeansboro, died at 11:55 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 1999, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. She was a retired clerk for the Secretary of State of Illinois.
She was born on May 16, 1907, in Mt. Vernon, a daughter of Alonzo and Abigail (Parkhurst) Howell. She was a graduate of McLeansboro Township High School, a lifelong Democrat and a member of First Christian Church of McLeansboro.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 1999, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
She is survived by four grandchildren, Vicky Brady and husband Wallace of Strasberg, Illinois, Mary Hardesty and husband Don of Neoga, Illinois, Bonnie Atkinson and husband Steve of Fairfield, Howell Solberg of Effingham; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Howell; a son, Carroll Howell; and a daughter, Nina Louise Solberg.
