Silas J. Hamson, 89, of Dahlgren, died at 5:15 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 1999, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital McLeansboro. He was a retired farmer.
He was born on September 14, 1909, in Hamilton County, a son of John and Corda (Potter) Hamson. He married Fern Ward on December 24, 1931, and she survives. He was a member of Dahlgren Baptist Church and was a member of Dahlgren Township School Board for many years.
The funeral was be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 1999, at Harre Funeral Home in Dahigren. The Rev. Richard McCormick and Rev. Steve Hamson will officiate. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery in Dahlgren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Silas E. Hamson and wife Mary of Belle Rive, Alan R. Hamson and wife Susan of Dahigren; one daughter, Violet Mehalek and husband John of Dahlgren; 10 grand-children; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Richards of Decatur; and several nieces, nephews and stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son John Alfred Hamson, three sisters, one brother and one grandson.
Memorials made be made to Oddfellows Cemetery in Dahlgren.
