Val B. Campbell
Born March 7, 1925 - Died August 15, 1999

Val B. Campbell, 74, of New Castle, Indiana, died on Sunday, August 15, 1999, at his residence following a brief illness. He was retired from the Link Belt Corporation in Indianapolis. He had also worked for the New Castle State Hospital.

He was born on March 7, 1925 in McLeansboro, a son of James Franklin and Florence (Martin) Campbell. He was married to Rose Mason for 53 years. and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany for almost a year. Mr. Campbell was awarded two bronze stars, good conduct medal, POW medal, marksman badge with rifle bar, honorable service button, combat infantry badge, European, African and Middle Eastern medals and the WWII Victory Badge. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and the Rose City Breakers CR Club. He was an avid baseball and Chicago White Sox fan.

The funeral was held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, 1999, at Main and Frame Funeral Home in New Cas tle Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the VEW and the American Legion.

Besides his wife, Mr Campbell is survived by one daughter, Karen Iflessinger and husband David of Greenville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michelle, Cristina, David and Marcy Plessinger, all of Greenville; four great-grandchildren, Megan, Mason and Ethan Plessinger and Caleb Henby; two brothers, George Pranklin Campbell and wife Grace and Fred Campbell and wife Betty, all of McLeansboro; a special caretaker and friend, Debbie S. Crabtree of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the flenry County Memorial Hospital Hospice through the funeral home.
