Walter C. Brooks, 75, of Macedonia, died at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 1999, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
He was born on June 3, 1923, in Macedonia, a son of Clifford and Ada (Holman) Brooks. On March 19, 1945, he married Frances Frederick, who survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Macedonia Methodist Church.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 1999, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Ray Long and Rev. Norman Fechtig officiated. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery.
He is survived by a son, Lewis Winemiller and wife Jean of McLeansboro; four grandchildren, Ron Winemiller and Brooke Winemiller, both of McLeansboro, Jason Hanson and wife Sallie of Elkville, Illinois, Kristi Hanson of McLeansboro; a nephew, Larry Eubanks and wife Judy of Marion; a sister, Faye Launius of McLeansboro; several aunts and cousins; and an uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Blood.
