William Ed "Junior" Smith Jr.
Born May 7, 1932 - Died January 22, 1999

William Ed "Junior" Smith Jr., 66, of McLeansboro, died at 3:50 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 1999, at DePaul Health Center in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a retired self-employed auto dealer at Smith Used Cars in McLeansboro, which he founded. He was also a former sheriff of Hamilton County.

He was born on May 7, 1932, in Hamilton County, a son of William Ed and Parry (Johnson) Smith. On February 7, 1958, he married Lois Knight at Lick Creek General Baptist Church near McLeansboro, and she survives.

The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 1999, at Harre Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Davenport officiated. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery.

Besides his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, Jimmie Smith and wife Shari of McLeansboro, Gus Ed Smith and wife Debra of Mill Valley, California; two grandsons, Jeremy Smith and Spencer Smith; one brother, Harold Smith and wife Katy of Sun City, Florida; two sisters, Louisa Bond and husband Ernie of McLeansboro, Cindy Dial and husband Garvin of Thompsonville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Stanley Smith.
