Chelsea Edwards, 84, of Enfield died Thursday, October 19, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
He served the Village of Enfield for 32 years, eight of them as mayor.
He was born March 22, 1916, in Emma Township, the son of Edgar and Pearl (Noble) Edwards. On Nov. 2, 1935, he married his wife of 65 years, Lanelle Griffin. She survives.
He was a World War II veteran, serving as a surgical technician in the Medical Corps and member of Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, 50-year member of the Masons, member of Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, Swords of Bunker Hill, past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, past member of Kiwanis and Lions Club and a Kentucky Colonel.
Surviving are his wife, Lanelle; a son, Gary of St. Louis; a brother, Clifford of Enfield; two grandsons, David and Michael Edwards; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2000 at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Burial was in Enfield Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the VFW and American Legion of Carmi.
