Clara Freeman, 96, of McLeansboro died at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2000, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center.
She retired after more than 50 years as an elementary school teacher from the Hamilton County school system.
She was born in Hamilton County on December 1, 1903, to the late Daniel Smith and Sarah (Lasswell) Cook. She married Charles Freeman May 14, 1928. He preceded her in death December 21, 1962.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Illinois Retired Teacher's Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan McDaniel of Mount Vernon; a grandson, Brent McDaniel; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles, in 1962 and a son, John Cook Freeman.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 200 at Gholson Funeral Home. The Rev. John Denham officiated. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
