James E. “Tittle” Elliston, 73, of McLeansboro, died Monday, August 28, 2000, at 12:20 a.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon of cancer.
He retired as a truck driver for Lipps Construction Co.
He was born on August 17, 1927 in Jefferson County, a son of Avin Arthur and Anna Mae (Wallace) Elliston. He married Lois Hall Warren and she survives.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church, Elks Lodge 2881, Eagles Aerie 2699, Ageless Iron Tractor Club, Masonic Lodge 31, Ainad Temple Shrine Club of East St. Louis, Jefferson County Shrine Club, Swords of Bunker Hill, American Legion Post 141, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376 and a former member of Teamsters Local 50.
Surviving are his wife, Lois (Hall); a stepdaughter, Montie Hill of McLeansboro; three stepsons, James D. Elliston of Kansas, Kerry Warren of McLeansboro and Kraig Warren of Sugar Land, Texas; three brothers, Louis Elliston of McLeansboro and Sam and Leonard Lane, both of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
A son, Richardson, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2000 at Gholson Funeral Home McLeansboro Chapel. Rev. Mark Lee and Rev. Everett Lemay officiated. Burial was in Boyd Cemetery near Dix.
Visiatation was held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at the funeral home, where Masonic services were conducted at 7:00 p.m.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Richard Elliston, two brothers, and two sisters.
