Joe Randel Gholson, 71, of DeSoto, died of lung cancer, Wednesday, December 6, 2000, at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Marion.
He was born on February 27, 1929, the son of John Randel and Georgia Ann (Pearce) Gholson. He married Virginia Lee Taylor Reaser and she survives.
He retired as grounds keeper at the high school in Prairie View.
He was a Korean War veteran and past commander of the Gurnee American Legion.
He was a member of Blooming Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Taylor Raiser; two daughters, Catherine McCann and Anita Sibley, both of Gurnee; two sons, Thomas of Waukegan and David of Gurnee; four sisters, Elsie Auxier and Annette Webb, both of McLeansboro, Sylvia Drosdahl of Las Vegas and Elizabeth Neal of Marion; three brothers, Charles of McLeansboro, James of Carmi and Jerry of Evansville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2000 at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Tony Auxier officiated. Burial was in Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton.
