Lorenz E. “Buck” Gholson, 80, of Eldorado, died Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at his home of heart failure.
He retired from managing the Illinois Mental Health Department and from the Odgen-Phipps Farms as manager.
He was a world War II veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star.
He was Protestant.
He was born on September 29, 1919 in Broughton, a son of Charles W. and Grace (Roberts) Gholson.
Surviving are a son, Fred of Broughton; three daughters, Janice Arflack of Eldorado, Susan Gholson of Mount Vernon and Carol Hoffman of Bourbonnais; a brother, John T. of Carmi; four grandchildren, Sommer Murphy, Darcy Ayers, James and Mike Gholson; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Rev. Bill Gholson officiated. Burial was in Hickory Hill Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 106.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, C. W. (Bill) Gholson and Rex Gholson; and one sister, Ruby Sebree.
