Virgil E. Irvin
Born March 1, 1925 - Died June 6, 2000

Virgil E. Irvin, 75, formerly of Dale, Illinois, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. He had a heart condition.

He retired as a switchman for the TRRA Railroad in Madison.

He was born on March 1, 1925 in Hamilton County, a son of Collis and Lillie (Tucker) Irvin.

He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and member of the American Legion.

He was Protestant.

Surviving are three daughters, Sherrill Randall of Punta Gorda, Brenda Melton of Naples, Florida, and Cindy Casebolt of Decatur, Indiana; three sons, Robin of Troy, Missouri, Michael of Granite City and Marcus of Seminole, Florida; three sisters, Sylvia Smith of East Peoria, Joanne Lawler of Peoria and Colleen Clark of Decatur, Illinois; a brother, Robert of Washington, Illinois; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. John Denham officiated. Burial will be in Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 106..

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one grandchild.
