Walter W. Digby, 84, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at Enfield Health Care Center.
He retired in 1976 after 33 years as an oil field pumper with Texaco.
He was born May 30, 1916 in Hamilton County, a son of Leroy and Eliza E. (Huffstutler) Digby. He married Edith Jane (Ledbetter) Digby on March 13, 1939 and she survives.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and member of American Legion and the Carmi Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a Protestant, Mason and member of the Eagles.
Surviving are his wife, Edith Jane; a daughter, Ellen Joanne Ferrell of Empire, Calif.; two sons, Walter of Twin Lakes, Wis., and Carl of McLeansboro; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David Ray and Leroy.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Digby Hill Cemetery in Dale, Illinois, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 106.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, David Ray and a son Leroy Digby.
