Dorothy Fern Wilson Smith, 82, of McLeansboro died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center.

She retired as a cook in the dietary department of St. Mary’s Hospital in East St. Louis.

She was born on March 9, 1919 in Equality, the daughter of Joseph and Pearl (Cook) Wilson. She married Samuel N. Smith on August 23, 1941 and he died on August 8, 1981.

She was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars post auxiliaries and the Hamilton County Extension Unit and a volunteer at McCoy Library.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Jo Cox of McLeansboro; A brother, Donald E. Wilson of Cleveland, Georgia; Theresa Flack of Lovettsville, Virginia, whom she helped raise; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Samuel N., who died in 1981, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2001 at Gholson Funeral Home McLeansboro Chapel. Rev. Bill Shelton and Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
