Harold S. “Harry” Rapp, 74, of McLeansboro died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at his home of prostate cancer.
Mr. Rapp was born on November 2, 1926 in Belle Rive to William E. Rapp, Sr. and Frieda (Stark) Rapp. He married Mary Catherine Haas on May 3, 1952; she survives.
He was a carpenter and a farmer.
He was a member of St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary Catherine (Haas); three daughters, Deanna Buerke of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Mary Jo Hollensbe of Mount Vernon and Frieda Liles of Murphysboror; six sons, Steven J., Cletus and Sanford, all of Belle Rive, Anthony “Tony” of Dahlgren, Martin J. of Jasper, Georgia, and Eugene Lee of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Rita Kiefer of Belle Rive and Delores Orf of O’Fallon, Missouri; three brothers, Lawrence of Belle Rive, Philip and William E. Jr, both of Dahlgren; and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Dahlgren. Msgr. Joseph Lawler officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery, with military rites by Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141.
Gholson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson; four brother-in-laws and two sister-in-laws.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital.
