James Donald Johnson

James Donald Johnson, 81, of Macedonia died at 4:20 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2001, at St. John’s Medical Center in Springfield of congestive heart failure.

He was born on June 7, 1920, in Franklin County to Charles and Ella (Phillips) Johnson. He married Velma D. Cutright on July 18, 1941. She survives.

He was a farmer and worked for many years at the Macedonia Feed Mill.

He was a World War II Merchant Marine veteran.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Velma D. (Curright) Johnson; a daughter, Dorothy Sherley of Macedonia; two grandchildren, Andrea Lowery of Ewing and James Herman Sherley of Benton; two sisters, Helen Mitchell and Pauline Depoister, both of McLeansboro; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001 at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery, with military rites.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
