Nicholas J. "Nick" Eckleberry, 10, of Dale died at 11:00 a.m. on June 16, 2001, from an apparant drowning accident in the Big Wabash River near Maunie.
He completed his fourth grade at Dale Grade School.
Nicholas was born on February 17, 1991, in Evansville, Indiana to Joseph Kim Eckleberry and Tracy A. Hawkins; they survive.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Herb Buche officiated. Burial was in Old Springer Cemetery near McLeansboro.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Tom and Dorothy Eckleberry of Springerton; materinal grandparents, Herbert Hawkins of Virden and Kay and Barney Barnett of Dahlgren; two brothers, Thomas Travis of Dale and Jessie Eckleberry of Springerton; two sisters, Maria Eckleberry of Dale and Hanna Eckleberry of Springerton.
He attended the Dale Christian Church, and enjoyed the sport of fishing.
