Peter Paul “Pete” Kanik

Peter Paul “Pete” Kanik, 72, of McLeansboro died Monday, February 5, 2001, at his home of lymphoma.

He was born on June 27, 1928, in Ziegler, the son of Thomas Kanik, Sr. and Anna Marie (Krilla) Kanik. He married Wilma Faye (Clark) Kanik on July 15, 1950, and she survives.

He was an oil field operator and owner of Kanik Oil Co.

He was in the Merchant Marines from 1946 to 1951, attaining the rank of wheelsman.

He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the Elks Club 1882.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma Faye (Clark); a daughter, Kathy Tennis of Mount Carmel; two sons, Steven and Anthony, both of McLeansboro; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2001 at St. Clement Catholic Church. Fr. Joseph Trapp and Msgr. Joseph Lawler officiated. Burial was in Ten Mile Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
