Ruth Fern Gardner Carter, 79, of McLeansboro died 3:15 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2001 at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado of complications of a stroke. .

She was the daughter of James and Melissa Pearl (Chapman) Gardner.

Surviving are her children; a brother; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Miles Ernest, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2001 at Harre Funeral Home. Rev. Randall Ragan and Rev. Eric Ragan officiated. Burial was in Hammock Cemetery near Springerton.
