Rev. Raymond L. Crews, 90, of McLeansboro, died at 11:25 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2001, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
He was born on October 16, 1920, the son of Armsted and Golda (Reese) Crews. He married Martha Wheeler on April 19, 1939 and she survives.
He had been a minister for Mount Olivet Church for 22 years, Braden Valley Church for six years and Plainview Church for four years. He had also been a grocery store manager for Kroger Grocery in Elkville, Sesser and Ridgway, Bracy Stores in Sesser and Marion and Big Johnís Store in Carmi and McLeansboro. He was a World War II Navy veteran, having served from 1944 to 1946.
He was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church and the Ministerial Alliance.
Funeral service were at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2001 at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McLeansboro.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Crews of McLeansboro, two sons, a daughter, eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
